The World’s Toughest Mudder Obstacle Course Race
USOCR (United States Obstacle Course Racing) helps organizers of obstacle course races in the development and promotion of their US events. Committed to safety, USOCR consults with race organizers on ways to keep athletes safe during the races.
One of the most challenging obstacle courses is the World’s Toughest Mudder, which was established in 2011. The event was created with top endurance athletes in mind.
Participants must complete as many five-mile loops as they can in a nonstop, 24-hour race. Each grueling mile of the course includes at least four obstacles, which are some of the most difficult in the obstacle course racing world.
The 2018 World’s Toughest Mudder will take place November 10-11 in Fairburn, Georgia. Both the winning male contestant and the winning female contestant will take home $10,000 in cash. To learn more about the race, visit toughmudder.com.

The Exponential Growth of Obstacle Course Racing
Since 2014 United States Obstacle Course Racing (USOCR) has served as the sanctioning body for obstacle course racing (OCR) in the United States. Besides its oversight role, USOCR also promotes the sustainable development of OCR.
OCR has grown exponentially from its recent humble beginnings. In 2010, only 50,000 people took part in OCR races. Today, they draw an annual participation of over 4.5 million people from around the world. The two leading OCR event organizers, Tough Mudder and Spartan Race, have even televised their events on networks like NBC, CBS, and Sky. This development has inspired a culture shift in which millions of people are testing their limits by running in the mud, climbing walls, jumping over fires, and crawling under barbed wire.
The sport’s huge adaptation has launched a bustling OCR startup scene where more companies geared toward hosting OCR events are coming up. They include new names like Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, BattleFrog, Bonefrog and Savage Race. Sponsors are also jumping in to cater to an eager fan base. Reebok has sponsored Spartan Races while Merrell is partnered withTough Mudder’s. Merrell even has a dedicated shoe line for OCR participants. After such mainstream adoption, OCR now looks like a legitimate contender for the Olympics, specifically the 2024 games.
